Join artist Hynek Martinec and curator Ben Tufnell in conversation to discuss APPLECORE, Martinec's first solo show with Varvara Roza Galleries.

 

The project uses the archetypal symbol of the apple to explore questions of technology, truth and knowledge.  As a committed user of digital technology in the creation of his work, Martinec here engages with AI, which he regards as both a beneficial tool and an existential threat.  Referencing historic works such as Massaccio’s Expulsion from the Garden of Eden (1427) and apocalyptic landscapes by John Martin, Martinec’s new paintings continue the broader investigation into the present situation initiated with Cyberlemon, his acclaimed exhibition at DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague in 2025.
